Latpanchar makes for a sleepy hamlet that is a paradise for nature lovers. The highest point of Latpanchar is the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary. Sitting atop an elevation of 5000 ft, Latpanchar falls in the Kurseong division of the Darjeeling district of West Bengal. Boasting of a huge diversity of flora and fauna, Latpanchar is home to more than 250 species of birds. Some of the most famous ones include the Rufous Necked Hornbill. The place draws in tourists from far and wide to catch a glimpse of the landbirds.

Tour Itinerary

Day 01: NJP Railway Station / Bagdogra Airport to Kharka Gaon + Half Day Local Sightseeing

Welcome on arrival at New Jalpaiguri Railway Station or Bagdogra Airport and transfer to Kharka Gaon (80 kms / 3.5 hrs). Check-in into your homestay or resort. After freshen up proceed to the nearest town of offbeat places near Kalimpong to visit some of the local sightseeing points. Visit the Dello Hills located at a distance of 10 kms from the main town which provides a 360-degree panoramic view of the Kalimpong town. Golf Course in Kalimpong is one of the highest golf courses in the country. The same is controlled by the Indian army and offers pristine views of the mighty Himalayas. The Durpin Dara Monastery is another attraction that is also known as the Zang Dhok Palri Monastery that was established by the “Dalai Lama” in the year 1976. The Chinese invasion of Tibet saw several religious scriptures being moved here which includes the 108 volumes of the “Kangyur”. Later visit Mangal Dham which is a Hindu temple complex known for its ornate architecture and impeccably stylized garden landscape. On your way back take time out to spot some of the wide varieties of avifauna that Kharka Gaon is famous for. Later return back to resort / homestay. Overnight at Kharka Gaon.

Day 02: Kharka Gaon to Latpanchar + Latpanchar Local Sightseeing

Transfer from Kharka Gaon to Latpanchar (55 kms / 2.5 hrs). Check-in into your homestay or resort. After freshen up proceed for local sightseeing in and around Latpanchar. The place boasts of a thick forest cover of sal, teak, pine and cinchona plantations. Make your way through the plantations gazing at the lush greenery all around. Ahal Dara viewpoint offers mesmerizing views of nearby destinations of Kurseong, Chatakpur, Namchi as well as Dooars. The place is best suited to catch a glimpse of sunrise over the Himalayan range. The viewpoint offers stunning views of the snow-capped Kanchenjunga. The Namthing Lake is famed for the Himalayan Salamander and sits atop 5000ft above sea level. The lake is cascaded by dense pine forests on one end offering picture postcard views. Latkothi is another place of attraction which is barely 4kms from Latpanchar. One can gaze at the bounty of natural reserves at this place or procure special permit to visit Kuhi area that is home to multiple species of colourful butterflies and fauna. The Sitong orange orchards are next on the list which is located in Sitong, a twenty minutes’ drive from Latpanchar. The panoramic vista of the lush orange orchards is a treat to the eyes. Later return back to resort / homestay. Overnight at Latpanchar.

Day 03: Transfer to NJP Railway Station / Bagdogra Airport

Morning after check out transfer to New Jalpaiguri Railway Station or Bagdogra Airport. Tour Ends.
